PARTICIPATION IN THE MEETING ON THE IMPROVEMENT OF RA HEIS ACCREDITATION RELATED DOCUMENTS

On July 9, 2014 R. Khachatryan, Head of the Center for Quality Assurance, and B. Margaryan, Vice-rector on Education Affairs took part in the meeting organized by the National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance Foundation (ANQA). The meeting gave a start to the improvement process of RA HEIs accreditation related documents during which a number of issues, the criteria and the standards of accreditation were discussed. With the aim to assure the quality of the discussion and respective activities, YSLU representatives also presented accreditation related issues and made suggestions for further improvement of the accreditation processes.


QUALITY ASSURANCE INTERNATIONAL EXPERT'S VISIT TO YSLU QAC

Within the framework of collaboration with Leuven University on 16-17 May, 2014 YSLU Center for Quality Assurance hosted an international expert on QA from Belgium, Dries Froyen. During the meeting with the expert a number of issues related to YSLU QA system, its advantages and shortcomings were discussed as well as the QA manual was reviewed.

The recommendations of the expert fostered the elaboration of further activities, directed to the improvement and development of YSLU QA system.




WORKSHOP ON “ENFORCEMENT AND PROTECTION OF COPYRIGHT” IN YSLU WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF EU TWINNING PROJECT

On April 15, 2014 the YSLU Center for Quality Assurance and the Chair on Education Management and Planning in cooperation with the EU TWINNING project held a workshop on “Enforcement and Protection of Copyright” issues. YSLU rector Gayane Gasparyan had an opening speech after which the EU experts from Denmark and Greece (Jorgen Blomqvist, Bjorn Juell-Sundbye, Dionysia Kallinikou, Pierrina Koriatopoulou, Galatea Kappellakou), as well as Christina Hambaryan, head of the Copyright and Related Rights Department at the Agency of Intellectual Property of Armenia gave reports.

The aim of the event was to raise the public awareness on intellectual property rights and copyright, their enforcement and protection in the Republic of Armenia by introducing best international practice. YSLU students, teaching staff and other representatives of different organizations interested in the mentioned sphere and its latest tendencies took part in the workshop. During the event the experts also mentioned about the vitality of protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in education.

In the end the workshop attendees were granted certificates of participation, and the speakers- certificates of appreciation. 


TRAININGS ON STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR YSLU STAFF


From November 1 to December 25, 2013 the Center for Quality Assurance organized and held trainings on strategic planning for YSLU administrative, teaching and support staffs (391 participants). The trainings were aimed at the enforcement of development of strategic and action plans, respective mechanisms and tools as well as comprehensive assessment of YSLU strategic plan and internal and external environments to be carried out by the heads of the structural units and other responsible units of YSLU.   

In particular, the training topics covered the following:

  • types of higher education institutions in the Republic of Armenia and their peculiarities
  • components of education environment of higher education institutions
  • management and planning processes
  • strategy, types of strategy
  • phases, goals and objectives of strategic planning
  • assessment tools for strategic analysis /SWOT, PEST, SMART system, KPIs, etc./

The efficiency of the training was evaluated after each session by means of questionnaires. The participants also made proposals and highly evaluated the usefulness of the training. Due to the discussions and practical assignments a number of topic-related issues were clarified.



TRAINING FOR YSLU TEACHING STAFF
 

 From August 27 to September 4 YSLU Center for Quality Assurance organized trainings on “Internal Quality Assurance and Institutional Accreditation” for YSLU teaching staff. The trainings aimed at the enhancement of awareness on university quality assurance procedures, the formation of quality culture and the continuous development of internal quality assurance system.

Тhe participants of the training were the lecturers and other representatives from scientific educational centers (248 participants overall). The training covered the following topics:

  • quality culture and QA mechanisms
  • QA related concepts
  • accreditation types, phases, criteria and standards
  • mechanisms for the assessment of YSLU teaching staff
  • procedure of professional academic program design, etc.

The participants were delivered training packages with necessary materials. They also had discussions and an opportunity to evaluate the efficiency of the training and to make proposals.


YSLU CQA PARTICIPATION IN ANQA TRAININGS

In 2013 the YSLU Center for Quality Assurance and other YSLU representatives who were actively involved in QA processes took part in trainings, organized by the National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance Foundation (ANQA). The training sessions titled “Development and Investment of QA Systems” covered three phases: April 15-20, July 1-10 and November 6 - December 9.

During the first phase (April 15-20) the participants were presented a number of topics on the development and investment of QA systems, professional academic program design, student-centered learning and feedback mechanisms.

During the second phase (July 1-10) the first phase results were summed up and on the basis of its coherent sequence the topics on the formation and development of QU culture as well as the role of self-evaluation and accreditation for the assessment and improvement of activities of higher education institutions were presented.

The third phase (November 6 – December 9) was planned to be held in participating universities and accordingly YSLU participants had the last training in YSLU. The aim of the meeting was to make up the map of assessment process, to discuss benchmarking and SWOT analysis results as well as to bring practical examples on the basis of YSLU processes.

The best practices of investing the knowledge and skills obtained and reinforced due to the training into the university will be presented in May 2014.
