The YSLU UNESCO Chair on human rights, democracy and European studies invites you to participate in the course: “European Integration - Language, Culture and Identity” supported by the European Commission in the framework of the Jean Monnet Programme of the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency.

     Jean Monnet European module aims to promote in higher education teaching courses dedicated to European integration and related to the European Union through development and dissemination of European Studies.

     The course “European integration – culture, language and identity” is a European module selected in 2011 by the European Commission Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency as Jean Monnet Action in the framework of Life Long Learning Programme.

 The mission and the aim

  • The course ՞European integration – culture, language and identity՞ offers a comprehensive knowledge of interacting of language, culture and identity in the European integration process.
  • Proposing this subject we wish to give students an opportunity to get acquainted with the process of European integration together with underlining revelation of intercultural communication and its further developments.
  • The course aims at providing the students with in-depth knowledge of European integration process.
  • The fundamental mission of the European integration – language, culture and identity” module is to develop future specialists who possess a keen understanding of the European integration and intercultural communication processes involved in it. This would maximize opportunities provided by the integration of the Armenian economic, business, political and socio-cultural environment with the European Union.
  • The proposed course’s aim is to facilitate the knowledge of European integration processes for students and to deepen their knowledge about the present and following developments of the integration.
  • The module aims to develop an understanding and appreciation of the European integration process as a unique political, economic and socio-cultural model.
  • It provides students with a thorough understanding of Europe and the European Union based on intercultural communication background.


Who can participate

  • The module will cover Bachelor and Master levels. It will be offered on one hand for students who are not directly students of study programmes related to the European issues and on the other hand for students who wish to deepen their knowledge on European Issues.
  • Students who are not directly related to the European Issues programmes (i.e. EU integration, politics, International relations) need to have a notion about the reasons of the European integration, the overall idea of Europe, historical, political and cultural dimensions of Europe and among the other courses this module will help to introduce different aspects of the European integration process for broad audience.
  • During the whole period of the program it is intended to organize summer schools, which will be open for participation of civil society groups.


Anticipated impact and results

  • The “European integration – language, culture and identity” module will contribute to education of professionals who will have a comprehensive understanding of the European integration process and the European Union and its relations with Armenia, and give them perception of how different communities and cultures can communicate and build a new common identity.It will show how to face the challenges, and take the advantage of the opportunities presented by its development.
  • The module will broaden the students’ awareness of the European culture and identity issues to help them acquire effective communication skills in European languages.
  • Armenia is a member of the Council of European, the European Neighbourhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership and in this context such modules are very important.


Course structure

  • Offered by the YSLU the course “European integration - Language, Culture and Identity” ​​ aims to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of the European integration process, focusing on such key topics which will help to grasp the essence of the process and the idea of depth.

  1. The idea of United Europe and the process of Eurointegration
  2. Basic questions of political history of Europe
  3. The systems and demographic and civilizational systems of European peoples
  4. Basic questions of the European and national identity 

  • The course includes 40 semester hours of academic load, 24 hours lectures, 10 hours and 6 hours of practical knowledge testing and evaluation.
  • At the end of the course participants will be given certificates.
  • The course will be delivered by four lecturers involved in the training program.
